Remote Printing

Remote printing gives you the option to select a different printer for one or more work orders. It is available from the individual Work Order and from the Work Order Browse when you click Print on the toolbar. For multi-task work orders, the assignments can be printed to multiple printers, depending on the diversity of repair centers or shops assigned to the work order tasks. If you are set up to use remote printing, you have the option to print remotely or locally.

Your WebTMA System Administrator determines whether remote printing is available and selects the eligible printers during setup. As described in How to Print a Work Order, a setting in Client Info / Preferences allows WebTMA to print only one copy on the default printer for each Trade associated with the Work Order Task(s).

Work orders printed remotely are stored in a database table, and WebTMA polls the table at regular intervals, such as every one or two minutes; therefore, the printer response is slightly longer for remote printing. When the system finds a work order ready to print, it is directed to the printer for the shop, repair center, or client. At least one of these records must have a default printer selected in order to print remotely.

Your WebTMA System Administrator establishes the default client printer from Admin > Client Info / Preferences. Each shop and repair center also have a Default Printer field. The system searches for default printers starting at the shop level, on to the repair center, and finally to the client level.

If a multi-task work order includes tasks for different shops or repair centers, the work order will print to the remote printer of shops or repair centers that have a default printer established. It is possible that some work assignments will print remotely and some will not, depending on what windows have default printer settings. See the Caution below regarding missing default printers.

Caution: The system first searches the Shop level, if no printer is found, it moves to the Repair Center, and finally to Client Info. If none of these windows has a printer designated, remote printouts do not print.
