Lookup Key Bitting

Path: Organization > Lookups > Key Bitting

Key Bitting types are used with the optional Key Management module. Use the Key Bitting window to add bitting information (the key cuts).

If you use Lock Shops, the shop records must be established before you create a bitting record because the Lock Shop field cannot be edited after you save a Key Bitting record. Assign the bitting to the desired Lock Shop when you create the record. Once bitting records are created, WebTMA displays the bittings on the Material > Key Management > Lock Shop window.

Key Systems can be part of the bitting record, but the record must exist before you set up the Key Bitting. Similar to the Lock Shop field, the Key System field must be populated when you create a record because the field is locked in Edit mode. If you want to assign a Key System to the bitting, a Lock Shop is also required.

The bitting number must be unique; however, the definition of 'unique' applies to the other fields on the window. For example, you can create numerous separate records for the same bitting number as illustrated below:

If you have other Lock Shops and Key Systems, you can create records using the same Bitting # for each of those as well.

Bittings are encrypted in the data base, and the Search option for the Key Bitting window offers limited search features, i.e., is equal to, is not equal to, is empty, and is not empty. Moreover, Fast Find is restricted to an exact match; the 'contains' option found on other windows is not available. Key reports do not show the bitting itself, instead you see a Bitting Available column.
